As a permanent exhibiting artist at the Judith Kaufman Gallery, I’m excited to announce a new show featuring myself and artist Glen Fretwell. Glen Fretwell is a mixed media artist whose inspiration comes from his love of botanicals and the natural world. Growing up in Muscle Shoals Alabama, he showed artistic inclinations at an early age. All of Glen’s drawings and paintings were architectural in nature. In fact, Glen developed a career Landscape Architecture and studied at UCLA. After years working as a Landscape architect he decided to paint again during COVID. Glen built a studio and started painting and fell in love with it all over again.
I am exhibiting mixed media and paintings from my series of works, including Hidden Treasures, Hidden Harmonies, Kleo Kats, Starlight Owls, and Gnome Town. In my “Hidden Treasures” and “Hidden Harmonies” series, I create multi-layered surfaces on canvas to showcase the interactions of colors and textures. Metallic accents complement imagery, words, and bits of found objects. I often add small images of my own representational art into my collages.
I evaluate each dab of paint, scrap of paper, and fragment of ephemera for its color, texture, and symbolic meaning. My compositions emerge from using these details impressionistically.
